The Morris Island Lighthouse is a lighthouse on Morris Island in South Carolina. The light stands on the southern side of the entrance to Charleston Harbor, north of the City of Folly Beach. At 161 ft, it is the tallest lighthouse in South Carolina.
Folly Beach is a city on Folly Island, in South Carolina, just south of Charleston. It’s home to Folly Beach Pier, stretching more than 1,000 feet into the ocean. Center Street is lined with surf and souvenir shops. Folly Beach County Park has picnic areas and a pelican rookery. As well as beaches and wildlife-rich habitats, Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve has views of Morris Island Lighthouse, completed in 1876.
Isle of Palms County Park is located on one of the more upscale, family friendly, and non-commercialized beaches in the Charleston area. With over 600 feet of oceanfront, this county park is a great place to enjoy a day at the beach. The park has picnic tables and grills, so beach goers can pack a picnic lunch or grab a snack at the concessions stand. The park also boasts boardwalks, sand volleyball, and a children’s playground. The park does not charge an admission fee, but charges for parking.
Isle of Palms is a city in South Carolina, on the slender barrier island of the same name. It’s known for its beaches backed by condos and eateries. Sea turtles nest in the area. The oceanfront Isle of Palms County Park includes a beach, picnic areas and a playground. Neighboring Sullivan’s Island is home to Fort Moultrie, site of important battles during the American Revolution and the Civil War.
The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over the Cooper River in South Carolina, US, connecting downtown Charleston to Mount Pleasant. The bridge has a main span of 1,546 feet, the third longest among cable-stayed bridges in the Western Hemisphere
Fort Sumter is a sea fort built on an artificial island protecting Charleston, South Carolina from naval invasion. Its origin dates to the War of 1812 when the British invaded Washington by sea. It was still incomplete in 1861 when the Battle of Fort Sumter began the American Civil War.
Waterfront Park is an eight-acre park along approximately one-half mile of the Cooper River in Charleston, South Carolina. The park received the 2007 Landmark Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
